Mum recently undergone breast cancer treatment - what do I do....

My Mum has been diagnosed with breast cancer, they thankfully found it early. We managed to get the small lump (not even 3 cm) removed before Christmas, she had a follow up appointment booked which they have now brought forward. She is now even more so worried, likewise am I.

We lost my grandmother in May 2025 and this is just adding so much stress and worry, I don't know what to do, the unknown is the most stressful part. I know she will be in fine in time, but the waiting around, worry and concern is heart breaking (all whilst working).

Has anyone else had their appointment brought forward, should we be worried?

Praying for all of those affected, we will get through.

  • Hi Mel24 and a very warm welcome to our friendly forum,

I am sorry to hear about your mum's breast cancer diagnosis but I am glad your mum's breast cancer has been found early and that she managed to have the small lump removed before Christmas. I hope that the follow up appointment goes well.

As you said, the unknown is the hardest part and you are still grieving too the recent loss of your grandmother in May 2025 which is really sad but it sounds like it was caught early which is a really good thing. I don't think there is necessarily anything to read into the fact that the appointment was brought forward - there may be all sorts of administrative reasons for that or cancellations especially in this busy festive period. It's hard to know why it was brought forward but try not to worry too much about it and think instead that the fact it was brought forward means you will get clarity and answers earlier.

It's very nice of you to think of everyone affected by cancer who are in a similar situation to your mum at the moment. I also wanted to mention a very recent post by another member of our community  who posted this thread about being diagnosed with grade 1 breast cancer at 60 and who will understand how confusing it all is for you at the moment as you are spending a lot of time waiting and not knowing what to expect. Don't hesitate to drop them a line if you wish and I hope you will hear from others on here who have also recently undergone breast cancer treatment or are waiting to find out more. The unknown really is the most stressful part as you say and I would like to share with you these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Best of luck for the follow up appointment - let us know how your mum gets on if you get a moment!
