Bowel cancer

My wife has bowel cancer. She also has a spot/lesion on each adrenal gland and a lesion on the right lung. She has had a PET scan and we have to wait for the adrenal team to meet on 4th Dec before we are informed of any results and proposed treatment if any. I don't know whether to feel positive or not. She has no pain, but eats very little and has started seeing more frequently.

Unfortunately she had developed dementia as well. She has a blood test on Thursday, and a face to face with the doctor on the 9th Dec.

  • Hello Trev1234,

I am so sorry to hear your wife has been diagnosed with bowel cancer and that a lesion has been found on each adrenal gland and on the right lung. I hope that you won't have to wait too long for the results of the PET scan - it won't be too long now until they meet on the 4th December and you find out more and I hope that you will get some clarity soon.

How unfortunate that she has developed dementia at the same time as going through cancer. It sounds like next week will be a busy week with medical tests, results and upcoming appointments and I hope that it all goes well.

If you have any questions or simply want to talk things through, we have a nurse helpline you can ring on this free number 0808 800 4040 - it is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that the blood test goes well on Thursday as well as the doctor's appointment on the 9th. This is a difficult time for you and I just wanted you to know that you are not alone here and other members of our community who have also been affected by bowel cancer will hopefully be along shortly to share their experience with you.

Let us know if you don't mind and if you get a moment what you find out after the meeting on the 4th.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie,

  • Hello Lucie, I'm sorry I haven't been back earlier.

The PET scan showed the cancer had spread. After the adrenal team responded to the colorectal teams request we were called back on the 12th and told it was stage 4. My wife did not want any treatment. On the 19th I called out the paramedics and they took her to a  and e where they gave her a CT Scan and found 3 tumours. Nothing could be done. She stayed in hospital for 3 days on steroids and was discharged with a palliative care package in place. She has 3 days left on steroids. She has deteriorated strength side and I believe she has cachexia as she has no muscles and is wasting away. I've had one visit from a district nurse on the 29th December. Regards Trevor
