Just taking in diagnosis of my mum

Just want to try and understand my mum's diagnosis of High Grade Lymphoma.

She noticed a lump on her neck early this year but didn't think to mention to her doctor.

Saw the consultant today to discuss treatment. She needs to have 6 sessions of Chemo and trying to come to terms with all of this.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Rizladog,

I’m sorry to hear about your mum’s diagnosis of high grade lymphoma. It’s completely understandable that you’re struggling to take everything in - hearing that a loved one needs chemotherapy can be a lot to process.

It’s good that your mum has now seen the consultant and that a clear treatment plan is in place. Many people find that once treatment begins, it helps to have a clearer sense of what’s happening and what can be done.

You might find it helpful to read more about supporting someone with cancer and coping with your own feelings during this time. With that in mind I'm sending a page from our website with information on Family, friends, carers and cancer in case you feel like having a read.

And if you’d like to talk things through with one of our nurses, they’re available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., on the freephone 0808 800 4040.

Best wishes to you and your mum,

    Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
