My friend got a terminal liver cancer diagnosis today what does that mean.
Hello Greentarra,
its sad to read of your friends diagnosis. It means that there is no possibility of surgical intervention to remove tumours. This could be due to their position on the liver, and close proximity to other vital parts, so think central and close to major blood vessels rather than the fringes of the outer lobes, or alternately a tight packed grouping of tumours rather than an isolated growth.
Your friend will likely be offered chemotherapy with the aim to slow the progression and spread to other other organs, the unknowns being the aggressiveness of the cancer, the response to treatment, the time that would buy, set against the difficulties of the treatment regime.
l was fortunate that my growths were on the outer lobes, that had just enough margins around them to excise cleanly lowering the risk of leaving cancer cells behind to repopulate and spread.
l hope this gives you a clearer picture and understanding,Your friend will need all the support her family and friends can provide,
David
Thankyou for your explanation and kindness I’m feeling better informed now best wishes
