Feeling overwhelmed

My mum has just been diagnosed with lung cancer, we saw a surgeon today to discuss surgery they want to take half the right lung away .

she has a choice of radiotherapy as well her mobility isn’t good and they have just found she has large valve vasculitis , I am worried about her having surgery that she will be unable to do anything for a long time , she lives on her own .

my sister doesn’t really help with all the appointments so I am feeling very overwhelmed at the moment and don’t know what is best for mum

  • Hello Indigo74

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's recent diagnosis of lung cancer. It's understandable that you're feeling overwhelmed by things at the moment.

If your Mum is going to need support during her recovery period, then do talk with the hospital team and GP to see what arrangements can be put in place. In some health boards, patients who are discharged from hospital can access support from a local reablement team to help them during their recovery, and so it's certainly worth asking if this is something that your Mum may be able to benefit from. Or, to find out what services are available in your Mum's local area.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses for some advice and support, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

I hope that you can get some reassurance that your Mum and you will be able to access the support needed.

    Best wishes,
