Chemo Brain - or is it? Partner of 10 years put on Capox. His mood started to change and eventually, after a row, he left and hasn't been in touch since

My partner of 10 years was put on Capox earlier on in the year. His tumour wasn't responding to previous treatments. But his mood started to change: he became very distant, very short-tempered and rude, stopped interacting and, when he did talk, he didn't spend any time listening to me. Eventually, suddenly, after a row, he left and, apart from coming back for some things, hasn't been in touch since - nearly 4 months ago. I don't know when he's due for a mid-term CT to see if the tumour's responding this time or what's happening.

Is this common?

  • Hi MHCS,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear that you have been through this - I can imagine this is confusing and upsetting.

We do sometimes hear of people acting differently - for example more distant or cold towards others - when undergoing treatment. However it's difficult to advise whether this is the case here. I'm also not sure if this could be a side effect of this specific treatment.

If you'd like to talk things through with our nurses at all, you are welcome to give them a call. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5. Or you can post in the 'Ask the Nurses' section of this forum.

    Wishing you all the best,
