Side effects

Hi my husbund has Pancreatic Cancer he is currently going through chemotherapy in order to shrink the tumour so he is able to have surgery.

Today has been really hard for me as my husbund is struggling to eat anything and drink anything as anything he eats tastes metallic or like acidic.Am trying to be strong and help him best I can but struggling.

Am looking for any ideas to help my husband x

  • I have done one round of chemo and felt sick the whole time. Didn't want to eat or drink because everything tasted wrong. I ordered Ensure drinks on eBay which help to add the nutrients you need and some calories. I'm going to ask my oncologist to give me a pack of them when I see him next this week. I'm only 7st 6lbs and lost 3lbs in 2 weeks on chemo. This is what I found helps. Eating little and often and obviously only what you fancy. I found juice with sparkling water tasted much more palatable.

It's hard but let's get through it for the best outcome. I had my surgery first and then the chemo. How many rounds is he doing. I'm doing 4

    Love and best wishes

  • Hi Catsinclover,

how are you doing. Thanks for your help I am already trying those ideas.

If you don’t mind me asking what cancer have you been diagnosed with and what stage is it?

My husbund was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in June which was a shock to not only him but to us all.To start with we was told by consultant it was unoperable and chemo would only pro long his life. This has changed now since we saw his Onocologist. He told us that he would put my husbund on the strongest most aggressive chemo treatment in order to try shrink tumour as it’s wrapped around a main artery.
We are keeping strong and positive for him as we know he can beat this as he’s the strongest man I know.

He is getting 12 rounds altogether but could be shorter depending. He is on his 3rd round but this time it’s been hard for him for us all.I have a son he’s a teenager with medical conditions so he’s struggling to cope with it all as well.

We have to be strong and positive on the good days and bad x

  • Yes, I think it’s always very hard for the loved ones of the cancer sufferer. I know my two sons have been very upset about it, but I have been very positive since June when I found out about it. No symptoms at all. Colon cancer with a huge 60 mm tumour, but no metastases. Tumour, was malignant and one lymph node. Strange, because my surgeon told me stage one, but my oncologists has said stage 3a
