Dads just been diagnosed

Hi everyone,

my dad has just been diagnosed with bowel cancer, we are currently waiting for his appointment to go through the findings. I’m really struggling with it all at the moment, feels so overwhelming. Stuck in the limbo of not knowing. My mind keeps going to the worst case scenario, I think because my gran his mum died last year of pancreatic cancer, makes me think worse case scenario.

Thanks for letting me chat on here. I appreciate the safe space. X

  • Hello kaylz89

I'm sorry to hear that your Dad has recently been diagnosed with bowel cancer. It's understandable that this is a worrying time for you all, especially as you lost your Nan to cancer last year.

We know that for many people that this period of waiting for more tests, results, and to discuss treatment options can be really difficult. Lots of forum members will agree that once you have that information and a treatment plan has been agreed that, things generally become a little easier.

If you, or your Dad, think it might help to talk things through with one of our nurses before his next appointment, you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can, as well as help you think about any questions you might want to ask the specialists. If you'd like to talk with them, they're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep posting here in the Cancer Chat community if it helps to have a safe space to put down in writing how you're feeling or to ask questions. We're here for you Kaylz89.

Let us know how you and your Dad get on.

    Best wishes,
