Husband is adamant no one is listening to him

Hello, I'm Charlie, my husband Gordon has stage 3 bladder cancer.

When he had his first 8 hour chemo then his short 1 hour chemo in July he was incredibly sick for 5 days after each session , kept saying that his anti sickness tablets where not working and he was becoming highly aggressive on his steroids.

We contacted oncology hotline and explained what was going on. They said they will put in the notes what was happening and to recommend no more steroids and to come off nausea meds.

When his second round came for his 8hr and 1hour he said about oncology recommending a different anti sickness meds but they said there isn't anything so he had the chemo with no sick meds and no steroids. He is having the GemCis, now he is incredibly wobbly on his feet, feeling weak and more sick than before and getting agitated with the hospital by saying they aren't listening to the patient. He's had 4 anti sickness meds for round one and they made him vomit for 5 days and backed up for 5 days.

He feels he can't ask the hospital for anything anymore. We know there other anti sickness meds through the NHS for  cancer patients but anrt they supposed to try everything to work out a rhythm that works.

Please can someone advise us. His next 8hr chemo is on the 10/09/2025 then 1hr 8days later.

  • Hi Charlie,

I noticed no-one has replied to you just yet so I wanted to stop by to welcome you to the forum and reassure you that your post has been seen.

I'm really sorry to hear everything Gordon has been through with his chemo and anti sickness meds. I can't begin to imagine how difficult this has been for the both of you.

Unfortunately I can't advise on this, but we have a team of very knowledgeable cancer nurses who may be able to help so if you'd like to get their thoughts on your situation, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They will do all they can to answer your questions and help you find a way to get access to other anti sickness medication that may help your husband at this time.

Hopefully some of our members who have found themselves in a similar situation will share their experiences and advice with you soon as well, but in the meantime we're sending you both all our support and are wishing Gordon all the best with the rest of his treatment.

    Kind regards,
