my nan has been diagnosed with brain cancer - I don’t know what to do

I have been fortunate enough to have three of my grandparents throughout my entire life. Now my nan has been diagnosed with a form of brain cancer today. We don’t know how severe or where it originally stemmed for. We’re waiting for more tests to tell us, but it will either be this Friday or next. I feel numb and I’m constantly crying, it all feels so isolating and the tumour is causing her to feel so disoriented, it’s horrible to know she’s feeling like that. They told us they had limited option but I can’t cope with the unknown. Does anyone have some coping mechanisms for me to try calm my anxiety.

  • A very warm welcome to the Cancer Chat community rubypenny14, although I'm very sorry to hear about your nan. This must be a very difficult time.

I hope you hear some news tomorrow but if it turns out to be next week then I hope this guide we have on how to cope with waiting for news will help calm your mind.

The NHS have some really useful tips and advice for managing anxiety on their website as well.

You can also have a chat with one of our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you and answer any other questions you may have at this time.

So many of our members know how tough and scary this time can be rubypenny14, so you are not alone, and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to offer their thoughts and advice.

We're sending you all our support rubypenny14 and hope your nan receives good news when the time comes.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
