My dad has got a colorectal endocrine carcinoma

I am really struggling with the not knowing around my Dad’s cancer. We were told the tumour had shrunk to 14mm from 22mm and the lymph node tumours had shrunk from 9mm to 2mm after 3 rounds of chemo. The doctor seemed elated with these results as was my Dad of course.

after round 6 of chemo he was scanned again and told the tumour was 25mm and hadn’t changed in size. I was at the appointment and said you told us last time it was 14mm, the doctor dismissed this and said it hadn’t grown or shrunk and it hasn’t spread any further so it’s contained. The doctors manner was very sombre and completely different to last time.

my Dad feels happy that it’s contained and there are still options although we don’t know what those are yet. I feel confused about the information. I know it’s a serious cancer from what I’ve read but my dad doesn’t - he’s 67 and just trying to focus on each day staying positive.

I have this horrible feeling all the time and don’t really know what to do. Any advice is appreciated x

  • Hi Jane365,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of your Dad's situation, and also that you received this conflicting information. I imagine this must be confusing and difficult to understand.

I'm not sure if you have any appointments in place to discuss next steps at all. If not, hopefully there will be an opportunity to discuss this soon.

As someone looking out for him I'm sure it is tough to not worry, and also to want more information. Trying to take things a day at a time can be a useful approach, even if it is sometimes easier said than done.

I hope that this forum can be useful for you, in terms of writing things down and reaching out to others, and that you get more replies to your post here soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
