My mum had cancer treatment after Xmas last year but she's now struggling to eat and is back in hospital with a chest infection. Is this normal?

My mum has received treatment for this - chemo and radiotherapy just after Xmas this year. She is struggling to eat anything at the moment and is now back in hospital as she has a chest infection. She can’t even drink water. Is this normal? We are waiting for a scan result which has now been a week waiting, to determine if anything has perforated and a possible stent to be fixed which we have no idea what this entails! Myself and my dad feel useless and don’t know what to do to help her

  • Welcome to the forum Jaime_Cornwall although I'm really sorry to hear what has happened to your mum. This must be a very worrying time.

Hopefully your mum's scan results will come through soon but if it would help to talk things through with someone whilst you wait, then do give our team of cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you and answer any other questions you may have about your mum's situation.

So many of our members know just how tough it can be to support a loved one on their cancer journey Jaime, so you are not alone, and I'm sure some of them will pop by soon to share their experiences and advice.

Our thoughts are with you and your parents Jaime, and we're sending you all our strength and support your way.

    Kind regards,
