Dad’s ignorance

My dad has stage 4 prostrate cancer which was diagnosed two years ago. He recovered from a perforated bowel but because of this diagnosis wasn’t given radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

He is now struggling to keep food down. A small meal causes pain and makes him violently sick. He is also fatigued after eating.
on he days he doesn’t eat as much he has a cracker and half a piece of toast with tea/coffee during the day.

im afraid to suggest to him that he has another cancer….

he thinks the PSA tests show he is doing ok . But I know this only relates to the prostate cancer. What should I suggest he does in a more proactive way without frightening him?
The paramedic did call yesterday and said he would pass notes on to his dr but everything seems to be at a snail pace.

any advice?
many thanks,

concerned daughter.

  • Hello Beryl, and so sorry  to hear bout your Dad.   What makes you think that your dad has another cancer?  I think you need to have an honest conversation  with his doctor and ask him straight out what is going on with your father.   I had to do this with my Mum's oncologist when she was dying from stomach cancer........sometimes we need to be very forceful to get some answers.  Good luck.

  • Thanks Violetgirl- I know you’re right. I had cervical cancer myself two years ago and honesty was the best.

I’ve just broken up from school so now have time to spend with them. Hopefully they will let me come along to the appointments.

It’s all the clues with fatigue, sickness, loss of weight …. These aren’t linked to prostate cancer. Ok here goes….
