Mum's basal cell skin cancer ops keep getting cancelled. Should I contact PALS?

My mum was diagnosed with basel cell skin cancer and is waiting for a 6 hour procedure to remove the cancer and have part of her nose rebuilt. The operation has now been cancelled twice and we are still waiting for a new appointment.  My Dad has Lupus which has been in remission for 2 years, but that has come back this week which basically means he is unable to get out of bed (was the stress over mum the trigger). Worried about both parents, and other than being there for them Is there anything more I can do to jig things along? Is it worth contacting PALS? emailing the secretary myself? The 31 day waiting standard is already breached but I'm reading on this forum so many others are facing a similar dilemma

My thoughts are with everyone going through a tricky time at the moment.

  • Hi LG70,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear that the procedure has been cancelled twice, I imagine this is incredibly frustrating and worrying as well.

It is sometimes not uncommon to have to wait longer than may be expected, if waiting lists are long in a particular area or hospital, or if they are short staffed at all - however you should still be getting some idea of how long to expect to wait.

Contacting PALS is an option you could explore, if you feel you're not getting anywhere with your Mum's medical team.

Our nurses are also available if you'd like to talk things through at all before speaking to others. If you'd like to do this, you can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

I hope you hear more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
