Breathlessness due to cancer

Hi I'm looking for some advice I'm currently caring for my 82 year old mother who has secondary breast cancer she's been suffering with breathlessness for a while and uses a fan to help she also takes oramorph although this only helps A  little she has an appointment with a respiratory nurse soon but the weather recently has been making it worse and she's struggling I'm not sure if this is an appropriate place to ask but I just want some independent advice I've been looking into portable air conditioning units and am just getting a little overwhelmed as they all seem to have mixed reviews and it's a lot of money to spend on something that might not work so I'd just like to ask if anyone can recommend one or give any advice on how to keep a room cool or things that could help with her breathing I appreciate any advice anybody could give thank you.

  • Hi Lyn3,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear that your mother is struggling.

It's good to hear you have an appointment coming up - I hope it's not long to wait for this.

In the meantime, you may want to talk things through with our nurses as they may be able to advise. You can either post in the 'Ask the Nurses' section of this forum to receive a reply from them, or you can call freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
