Dad's last radiotherapy session

My dad's last radiotherapy session for treating prostate cancer was today. Mum said he has a PSA test in August and then he sees the Oncologist a week later. Then we will know if the treatment has worked. In the meantime, Dad continues the hormone injections at the doctors surgery.

I think I was hoping for and was too focused the all clear straight away, you know? Then you have the checks for 5 years. So that time will be anxious too...

  • Hi Artslover25,

Well done to your dad for completing his last radiotherapy session - what an important milestone and achievement! It sounds like things are really going the right direction for him and that he is being looked after well. It is normal to feel impatient to get that all clear straight away but it's good that they are being thorough and checking his PSA in three months' time and that a week after that he will get a review from the oncologist. You should get a clearer idea by then as to how things are progressing. It's normal to be anxious but it's a good thing that they will be keeping an eye on him and doing regular checks for 5 years - this will ensure that any slightest change for example in PSA results or anything else can be nipped in the bud and that they are monitoring him closely.

Fantastic news though about the last radiotherapy and I am keeping everything crossed that the treatment has worked for him. Do come back here if you don't mind to update us on how things progress for him and on how the oncologist appointment goes.

    Best wishes,
