Mom with Ovarian cancer

Good afternoon. My mom has recently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and they are going to operate in the next 2-3 weeks. I am worried about how to care for her and what is involved. She is 78. Any advice would be amazing. Mom has a hysterectomy around 40 years ago but they left one ovary which is unfortunately the issue. It appears to be a very large tumour and the operation sounds rather tricky and lengthy with a lot of risk. Many thanks.

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Emma although I'm sorry to hear you mom has recently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

We have a section on our website that goes in to a lot of detail about surgery for ovarian cancer but for further information and advice you can give our team of cancer nurses a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you and answer any other questions you may have about the operation and how to take care of your mom afterwards.

I hope this information we have on how to support someone with cancer will prove useful as well.

This must be a very scary time for the both of you, but our members are here for you Emma and hopefully you will receive some support and advice from them soon.

In the meantime, we're thinking of you Emma and wishing your mom all the best with her surgery.

    Kind regards,
