Husbands kidney cancer

Hello everyone,

my husbands going for a kidney and partial bladder removal on Wednesday.

we have waited a long time for this, he's been battling bladder cancer, for the second time, for 2 years.

they told him a few months ago it was extremely aggressive and spreading therefore the kidney had to come out and part of the bladder.

he has issues with his prostrate but they said it will have to wait as this is more important.

please can anyone tell me if any special foods that he may require. Also is there foods and drink that he can't have? Any special diets that we can follow?

my hubby is 74 am 56 yes there's an age gap lol .

any advice would be very much appreciated. I used to work many moons ago in a hospital as auxiliary so you don't scare me and upset me, please done worry about that, am an extremely practical person where health is concerned.

thank you for reading

xx

  • Hi Artistpurple and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I noticed you haven't had a reply just yet so I wanted to quickly stop by to let you know that your post has been seen and to wish your husband all the best for Wednesday.

Your husband's medical team will be in the best position to advise on what foods and drink he will be able to have after his surgery so make sure you ask them about this when you can, but if you're unable to speak to them before Wednesday you can give our team of cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040. They'll be back in the office on Tuesday from 9a.m and they will do all they can to answer your questions and help you prepare for what's to come.

We have some general information about managing diet problems on our website as well but hopefully some of our members who have experience of this will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

When you feel up to it, do let us know how your husband got on. We'll be thinking of you both and will have our fingers crossed everything goes o.k.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hi I've just joined this group as I needed some moral support. My husband is 15 days post surgery having had his kidney and bladder removed. He was diagnosed in February but after bladder tumours were removed they told us there was another aggressive tumour in his right ureter so it all had to come out.

I have nursing experience and like you am very practical but tbh the hardest thing is staying positive whilst he is so vunerable.

He has had to have a stoma with all that entails but that hasn't been an issue so far.

Take EVERY  day as it comes and know yiu can only do your best xx
