Caring for my husband with gastric and oephagul cancer that'd spread to liver adrenal glands and bones

Hi all this is my first post as I am struggling so much and do not know how I can further help or support my husband.

He was diagnosed last Nocember. His only option is chemo to get it to a manageable state. He gas had 6 chemo sessions. Ge trued 1 immunotherapy but it did not react well to him and made him really ill.

My husbands main struggle is eating despite having a stent fitted into his oesophagus. He is losing weight fast. But struggling with the replacement drinks and shakes.

I don't know what to do. I am really scared.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Nicki-M

I’m sorry to hear about what you and your husband are going through.

It’s understandable that you’re feeling scared and overwhelmed right now. Supporting a loved one through this can be incredibly difficult, especially when there seem to be more questions than answers.

Many people here have shared similar experiences, so I hope you’ll find some comfort and helpful advice from others who’ve faced the same challenges.

If you’re looking for practical information on eating and nutrition during cancer, we have a page on our website called Diet problems with cancer which covers things like swallowing difficulties, loss of appetite, and getting enough nourishment, in case you feel like having a read.

You’re doing so much already just by being there for him, and it’s okay to feel unsure at times. If you’d like to talk things through or get some guidance on how to support his nutrition or manage some of the symptoms, our nurses might be able to help. They’re available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Please know that you’re not alone  - we’re here for you, and so are the others in this community who understand just how tough it can be.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Renata
