Pregnant and partner diagnosed with likely hodkins lymphoma

After a long three years trying for a baby, and a successful round of ivf, my partner discovered lumps on either side of his neck in his lymph nodes.
He had a lot of tests, full bloods and a chest X-ray that showed he’d had a past viral infection, probably glandular fever.

The lumps did not go away over several weeks and so another gp referred him to the neck, throat and chest specialists. He had an ultrasound on the neck and a biopsy which showed likely presence of hodkins lymphoma.
On Tuesday there will be another biopsy and a Pet scan that will make him temporarily radioactive, as he can’t then be around me as a pregnant person we will need to stay apart for at least 8 hours.

Very worried and anxious and struggling to keep it together for him, he’s doing so well and after a few wobbles he’s feeling more positive about the outcome and prognosis as he’s young and fit and healthy and it’s a very treatable form of cancer. It’s just really bad timing for us with the baby finally on their way and I worry about juggling pregnancy, birth and a newborn with looking after him through possible chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Anyone have any advice or support to offer or any similar experiences with positive outcomes?

  • A very warm welcome to the forum Gm-c1991 although I'm so sorry to hear what has happened.

This must be such a stressful and worrying time for you both but it's good to hear that the Hodgkin Lymphoma, if confirmed, will be treatable.

Looking after yourself and your husband whilst pregnant is a lot to deal with, so don't hesitate to lean on your family and friends for help and support at this very challenging time as I'm sure they will be more than happy to assist you both in any way they can.

I'm sure some of our members will be along soon to offer their support and advice, but you can also talk things through with one of our cancer nurses as well. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you at this time.

I know the journey ahead will be tough Gm-c1991, but we will be with you every step of the way.
