Partner struggling with his mental health after bad reaction to chemo. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

Hello

I’m new to this forum and my partner is in the hospital following a bad reaction to one session of chemo. He is now physically fine but his mental state is not good so much so he is now on anti psychotic meds. I and his family don’t recognise him. Anyone familiar with this situation? Any advice / guidance would be appreciated.

thank you

  • Hello Smudge01

I'm so sorry to hear that your partner has had a particularly bad reaction to his recent chemotherapy treatment. It sounds like it's been a really difficult time for you all.

Sometimes anti-psychotic medication such as olanzapine can be used to help manage the side effects of chemotherapy, but I presume from your post that your partner has been given medication primarily to help stabilise his mental health. Do talk with the specialists looking after him about your concerns and what the plan is moving forward with treatment for your partner, both in terms of his mental health and his cancer diagnosis.

If it would help to talk with one of our nurses for some advice and support, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

I do hope that the hospital can offer you all some reassurance soon.

    Best wishes,
