My mom

Hi,

My mom has recently been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. She is 67.

She needs a lumpectomy & radiotherapy.

I don't know how I am feeling. I keep going through a mixture of emotions

I am struggling with feeling happiness & I feel guilty with carrying on with normal pleasures in life. I don't want her to think I don't care.

Is this normal to feel like this?

  • Hello KRS80 and welcome to Cancer Chat,

I'm sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis.

It's completely natural to go through all sorts of emotions when a loved one has cancer and, although it can be difficult, try not to feel guilty. It's important to give yourself the time and space to process what is happening.

We have some information and guidance on coping with cancer including for family, friends and carers around caring for someone with cancer, which you and your mum can refer to at any time. I hope this will be useful in some way.

Also if you or your mum would like to speak to one of our cancer nurses about this diagnosis, you can call the free helpline on 0808 800 4040. Lines are open 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes to you,

    Moderator Anastasia
