Stage 3 Bladder Cancer treatment options for elderly

Hello

My mother has been diagnosed with stage 3 bladder cancer. She is 88, in good spirits, walks everyday though slightly frail. What are the treatment options and type of care we need to get? I am lost and have no clarity on how best to support her.

Thank you for any assistance.

  • Hello James2309,

I am so sorry that your mum has been diagnosed with stage 3 bladder cancer and there is information on our website you might be interested in reading on treatment for bladder cancer. Given her age though, it might be that not all treatment will be suitable for her so the best thing to do I think would be to have a chat with her medical team and ask them for guidance on the type of treatment she might have and the type of care you need to organise for her.

It's difficult to know sometimes how best to support a loved one after a cancer diagnosis and we have a section on our website specifically designed for Family, friends and carers which includes information on how to support someone with cancer with suggestions as to the sort of practical support that could be beneficial to someone in your mum's situation. It's great that she is in good spirits and is still walking every day and I am sure she appreciates everything you are doing for her. Talk to her GP too about the kinds of provisions they have in place for the elderly where she lives so that you have access to all the support you can get to help you support a loved one during this difficult time.

    Best wishes,
