Terminal cancer diagnosis

My twin sisters husband is 42 and been diagnosed terminal with bowel cancer and lymphoma. He’s been in hospital 9 days and had 5 days of radio. They have 3 children. 4,8+9. This is tough and I’m writing as an experienced child carer of our mum. She had the countries first key hole kidney transplant (key hole) 20yrs ago. Since had cancer and bowel operation and still with us.
I’m just asking for…. I don’t even know as I’m staying with my sister to help with this situation. It’s happed to quickly to him and he’s skin and bone in a month. He’s meant to start chemo to keep him here as long as possible. I get it’s rubbish but I think I just wanted to voice that this is rubbish

  • Hello NSH,

How sad that your sister's husband has been diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer and lymphoma at such a young age. It must be so hard for all the family and so tough for you too even though you had the experience of being a child carer. How incredible that your mum had the country's first keyhole kidney transplant 20 years ago and that she is still with you having had cancer as well and a bowel operation. She is a true survivor and model of resilience and I hope that she is doing ok.

It's so nice of you to be by your sister's side - I am sure that your support and having you right there with her is such a source of comfort during this difficult time. How sad that her husband has deteriorated so quickly and I hope he can be as comfortable as possible. Sometimes there are no better words really to describe this than what you said, that this is rubbish, totally rubbish really and on our forum you are welcome to voice how unfair this is and express yourself, offload and talk to others who have been in a similar situation.

I will now let others who have been in a similar place come and say hello and share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,
