I am just about to go back to uni over the next few weeks, how do i look after my family

I have just found out that my mother has womb cancer. We are all in shock and have no clue on what steps to take and how to look after each other, especially since we havent known many people in this situation. There are four of us in the family and my brother is going back to uni soon too. It is only my dad who is permanently at hoome. My mum is still waiting for an MRI scan to get an idea on the severity of the cancer, and what steps to take next. Has anyone been/ are going through a similar situation who could give me some advice on what to do and how i can support my family.

  • Hello,

I'm so sorry you are going through this, it's a difficult time for you. I've never been to uni so can't advise on that so much but what I will say is, make sure you let the uni know so they can support you when you need it. They will probably have a counsellor that you will have access to and make sure you request extensions when you need them. Don't put too much pressure on your self, as for support. Your mum would want you to go and complete your qualification and achieve your goals. That would make her happy, knowing that's what you are doing. She will receive help and support from other organisations, she will be given their details. Just keep things as normal as possible and stay in touch with your family for their sake and yours. Your dad will be there and keep you informed.

Sending you best wishes. Stay strong!

    Lisa
