My mum was diagnosed last week with cancer that’s spread

My mum last week was diagnosed with cancer that’s spread, herself and my dad live 400 miles away so they have moved in with me (they was staying with me when she was taken ill) she has fluid in her lungs which has been drained previously but they can’t do it again until the doc decides on cancer treatment. Mum is on oxygen 24/7. I am so overwhelmed with anxiety and can’t stop crying over the thought of the chance mum may not survive this. How do people make this constant panic and worry go? I can’t stop crying

  • Hello Sadiecakes

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's recent cancer diagnosis. It can be devastating when a loved one is given the news that they have cancer and so I can understand that you're feeling overwhelmed and scared by things.

Have the specialists given you any idea about the next steps for your Mum? Hopefully it won't be too long before they have all the information they need to talk with you all about the best options for her care.

We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be really difficult. If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

I hope that you have some news soon.

    Best wishes,

  • It’s natural to be afraid for your loved one. Im in a similar boat, absolutely sick with worry. Someone told me today look after yourself so you can look after them. Now is the time to draw on any support networks you have.
