Husband diagnosed with Kidney Cancer. What does a hilar node mean?

Hello

My husband has just received a diagnosis of kidney cancer. Stage 2 due to being 9cm, however it’s localised. But on the pathology report mentions a prominent hilar node .. what does that mean? Can anyone help?

Also he has been told that he will have a radical nephrectomy.

Ta2 N0 MX is also on his pathology report.

Obviously I have been on google, please do not be angry, lost both parents to cancer so already on a downward spiral in my head.

Thank you

  • Hi betty45,

Welcome to Caner Chat. I'm sorry to hear of the situation with your husband, I can understand this must be very difficult and I hope you're getting on as OK as can be.

Unfortunately I'm not able to advise on your question - typically it will be your husband's doctor who is best placed to do this, so do speak to them when you can.

You are also welcome to speak to our nurses if you'd like to talk things through. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040, or alternatively you can post in the 'Ask the Nurses' section of this forum. They are available Monday-Friday, 9-5 (excluding bank holidays).

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
