  • Hi DiRennie,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of the situation with your mum - I hope you are getting on OK.

Hopefully since posting here you have been able to get some support with regards to your question. It sounds like the best person to speak to would be your mum's doctor, as they are best placed to advise.

Our nurses are also available if you'd like to talk things through. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

I hope that this forum can be of some support to you.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi, my wife has AML and had 3 lots of sepsis out of the 4 cycles of chemo she had. It's so difficult because we thought she'd most likely get infections from other people eg chest infections. However it was things like kidney infections, hickman lime infections etc that you don't get passed on. I think you take the precautions you can of washing hands, limiting contacts and not seeing people who are unwell but otherwise it's a bit of pot luck unfortunately I think. I hope your mum is doing as OK as can be. Unfortunately the neutrophils just take the time they take to recover but her clinical team will guide her.
