Primary Kidney Cancer & Secondary Bone Cancer

My dad has very recently been diagnosed with Bone Cancer, and was then told the primary cancer is in his kidneys.

We are currently waiting to be seen as only had CT scans so far.

I guess what I want to know, is what happens next?

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community JmC93 although I'm sorry to hear your dad has been diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer.

Hopefully you and your dad won't have to wait too much longer to find out what happens next, but if either of you would like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very well informed and will do all they can to answer your questions and support you whilst you wait.

Hopefully some of our members who have been on this journey will share their experiences and advice with you soon as well.

We're thinking of you JmC93 and sending all our support your way.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hello, I am in the same situation with my mum. Can you tell me what happened next. Thank you

    Hi Hayek,

Dad went on to have more CT scans and MRIs, he was admitted to hospital in October due to the tumours on his spine and the risk of paralysis was bed bound from then on.

He was in for 8 weeks, when he was then moved to a nursing home for Christmas.

dad has since then unfortunately passed away.

This isn't the reply you were hoping for and I wish I could have told you everything turned out ok, but it didn't and this is the harsh reality of this horrible disease they call cancer.

Now this hopefully won't happen with your mum and I'm sending so much love your way that is doesn't, but take this advice from someone who is grieving heavily, fight for answers, fight for treatment, go to every governing body possible, do the things you planned to do together and don't think you will do them later, don't regret anh second spent.

Praying for a quick recovery for her

    Hello

Thank you for your quick reply and I am so sorry about your dad, it is so sudden that one day they are ok and working away in a job they love and the next unable to leave the house. Thank you also for your advice, my brother has been amazing taking mum for blood tests and I have told my work I will be absent (I'm a teacher) and go to specialist appointment - when we get it. I'm wondering as blood test was yesterday if they need to wait for the results before meeting with the specialist? I have been looking at private health care but cancer is meant to be treated as urgent.

Thankfully my mum lives close by and I see her a couple of times a week. I have organised a family party for a week on Sunday and also told my mum if she needs to she can move in with me.

Sending love and support your way,

Susan (this username was taken hence the use of Hayek - economist I'm discussing at work)
