My son the Pilot and cruel Ewing Sarcoma

10 weeks ago our only child Harry was just finishing his 2 years Commercial Pilots training course when a lingering sore shoulder that we all thought was a gym injury was identified as advanced bone cancer.  Unfortunately it has spread to his sacrum pelvis and lungs .  Round 5 of 14 of chemo Radio to start soon and we are not sure if an operation at this stage.  He is under excellent care and the Cotton rooms seems to be our new home .

i am struggling to cope with everything.  He is our only child and the thought of losing him just consumes me everyday.  He is being unbelievably strong and very pragmatic and the slight glimmer of home is his second PET scan since diagnosis shows no glowing round his tumors.  We are waiting for the MRI results to see if the tumors are shrinking.

  • Hi DRWHarry,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm so sorry to hear of the situation with your son. I can only imagine how incredibly difficult this must be.

It sounds like you are waiting to get some more information soon, so I hope that it's not long to wait for this.

Keep speaking to others around you for support as much as you can, as it often helps to talk. Hopefully you have friends and family around you for this. Either way, we are always here for support on the forum here too, so I hope that it can be of some help to you, if ever you want to write things down and connect with others.

There are also other options for support and resources if you feel you'd like it, such as those offered by Macmillan and Maggie's (who also have local support centres).

Hopefully you'll get some more replies to your post here soon. You can also browse or search the forum (using the bar at the top of the page) for other discussions and people to speak to, if you'd like to.

As I say, we're always here if you need it.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
