Looking for a Thai speaker to talk to my wife. She has just been diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Marginal Zone Lymphoma

My wife is Thai. She is 62. She has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Marginal Zone Lymphoma, we don't yet know exactly which type. A tumour has been removed from her bladder. We don't yet know if it has spread further. The diagnosis is recent. She would like to talk to someone who speaks her language - Thai. At this stage she does not want emotional support, she is looking for information from a clinician or trained volunteer. Can anyone help please?

  • Hello SPCA

I'm sorry to hear about your wife's recent diagnosis. Undoubtedly it's a difficult time for you both.

If your wife is looking to access support from an interpreter during hospital appointments then you should be able to access this service via the hospital PALS department.

I hope that she is able to find the support she needs. If you would like to talk with one of our nurses about your wife's diagnosis at any point you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks Jenn, but we are not looking for a translator. She is looking for information from a clinician or trained volunteer who speaks Thai. Can anyone help please?

  • Hello again SPCA

Our nurse team are able to talk with patients using Language Line which includes most global languages. However they are a nurse-led service so there are limits to what information they can share. If your wife, or you, would like to speak with they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Macmillan also offers services where people can talk with someone in their own language. You might want to have a look at their website.

Lymphoma Action also has information on their website which may be of help to you both. They also have support services available but you'd need to get in touch with them to see if there is any way your wife could access support with a Thai speaker.

I'm sorry that we can't be of more help but I do hope that your wife is able to access the support she is looking for.

    Best wishes,
