Bowel Cancer

My mum has been diagnosed with bowl cancer. Shes had no symptoms of it. shes got a scan tommorrow and im feeling very sad by it all - shes been told to  just carry on as normal, but it just doesnt seem normal. As a family we're finding it hard. its very hard to take in. i want to know how long will it take to recieve the scan results and how long it will be before any treatment. im so sad

    I'm sorry to hear that your Mum has recently been diagnosed with bowel cancer. It's understandable that this is an anxious time for you all. 

    It's good to hear that the additional scan needed to make a full diagnosis has been done and hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for the doctors to have all the information they need to be able to discuss a treatment plan. 

    We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult. Naturally, you're feeling worried. It can sometimes help to talk with someone about how you're feeling and I wonder if you might find it useful to talk things through with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    The waiting is the hard part - but if they've diagnosed Cancer than everything then happens pretty quickly. So first of all, try not to worry (as if, right!). Don't google!

    Depending on what they found, they'll may do a CT Scan with Dye, maybe an MRI and even PET scan.  These are all to find out more details about where the cancer is exactly and the size of the tumour. They'll then work out a plan to fix it - that could be surgery, Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, a mixture of all of those or even something else. The tech and medicine is amazing.

    Try and stay positive throughout, take small wins and have a goal for when you've (your mum has) completed treatment. You can get through it all and come out stronger - I have. We have as a family.
