Hormone Therapy & Memory Loss

Hi, I was just trying to see if anyone had experience of this?

My Dad is 86, he has Metastatic Stage 4 Prostate Cancer. He has a permanent catheter, it’s spread to bones and bowel.

He has been on Hormone Therapy for 18months

We have noticed a very significant decline in his memory and mood getting progressively worse. He is very depressed and upset about it, his quality of life is just awful. I know it’s a recognised side effect of HT

My question is, IF he were to discontinue the HT, would his cognitive impairment improve. Due to speak to his Oncologist on Tuesday but I think Dad would like options for his quality of life for the time he has, it’s heartbreaking to see how defeated he feels

thank you

  • Welcome to the forum JW08 although I'm sorry to hear about your dad and the changes you've noticed in his memory and mood since he's been on hormone therapy.

This must be very difficult but I hope the oncologist is able to address your concerns today and answer the questions you've included in this post. If you have anything else playing on your mind after you've spoken with them, do feel free to give our team of cancer nurses a call to talk things through. They are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all that they can to help.

Hopefully you will hear back from some of our members soon but in the meantime, we're thinking of you both and wishing your dad all the best on this journey.

    Kind regards,
