Stage 4 Prostate cancer

Hi my dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 prostrate cancer in October 21, the cancer had already spread to his lymph nodes & bones, he has undergone hormone therapy , chemotherapy & radiotherapy for his spine, in January 24 the cancer had spread to his spine also. My dad is now managing his pain with slow release morphine & liquid morphine, he is in severe discomfort especially when trying to sleep & can only sleep sitting up in bed, in the last week his pain has become significantly worse , he has lost his appetite & is very tired. I am just looking for advice from anyone who has experienced a similar situation on how we can make my dad more comfortable? Thanks x

  • Hi LizzoWills and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm very sorry to hear about your dad's advanced prostate cancer and his current symptoms. This must be a very difficult time.

I'm not sure from your post if you dad is being looked after by a palliative care team but if he is, it would be best to let them know that his pain has got worse as they will be in the best position to advise and increase the strength of his morphine if needed. If a palliative care team isn't involved just yet then the next person to speak to about this would be his GP.

So many of our members know how challenging this time can be LizzoWills so you are not alone, and I'm sure it won't be long until you receive some support and advice but you're also very welcome to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5pm and they will do all that they can to help.

    Kind regards,
