Wife has lost her appetite since being diagnosed with kidney cancer

wife got kidney cancer diagnosis after a few tests and consultations  after a few months.

we are now waiting for another test next week because she had a major  lung operation 30 years ago our main consultant / anesthetist wanted some more information .

my problem is she will not eat or drink and has lost alot of weight  and is getting weaker and weak everyday. I've tried all her  favourite foods and tried food shakes from the doctors.

She just makes excuses all the time . She's on anti-sickness meds .

Any ideas would be most greatfull as I'm at a loss .

  • Hello kwh55

I'm sorry to hear about your wife's diagnosis and that at the moment she is struggling with her appetite. It's understandable that you're feeling worried.

I'm unsure what excuses your wife is making regarding not wanting or not being able to eat at the moment. Please do speak with your GP again. If you have access to a cancer nurse specialist then give them a call as well. It could be that there is something simple that is impacting your wife's appetite and/or desire to eat that can be easily treated. Or it may be that a referral to the local dietician could be beneficial. Do also mention this to the hospital staff at her appointment later in the week.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them for some advice and support. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that things improve soon.

    Best wishes,
