My lovely husband

Hi. I have been with my husband for the past 45 years. We have during that 45 years worked together lived our lives together and brought our family up. He was diagnosed with prostrate cancer 115 reading which had spread to his bones a year last March and his prostrate count was 115. He was told in the most cold and awful ways that he had advanced prostrate cancer which had spread to his bones. Go home and take these tablets.  Wait for MacMillan nurses to ring you. Then nothing no contact for weeks. We saw a consultant privately who was wonderful and passed us to oncology in this hospital (not the local hospital who gave us the diagnosis).  We were still NHS. They have been excellent and so are our surgery.
my husband doesn’t want to tell people but I feel he’s getting more and more pain in his bones now and I’ve felt very alone throughout this journey. We have now told immediate family but I still feel unable to cope sometimes as I love him so much.
he tries so hard to still carry on as normal but by lunchtime he’s in pain and very tired. His prostrate count is now very low but the bones hurt more and more. Has anyone else been put in this situation and if so have you any advice for giving him more help and facing the future. Thankyou

  • Hi Glo3139,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of the situation with your husband and that you have had a bad experience with the doctors and hospital.

I am sure this must be incredibly difficult. It's important that you also keep looking after yourself as well as trying to care for your husband. Keep speaking to others around you and seeking support where you can.

You may find it helpful to have a chat with one of our nurses, who can listen and advise on support options. If you'd like to do this, you can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Hopefully Macmillan can also provide some help to both of you. You can always reach out to them for further support, and can have a look at their website for various resources. It might also be worth having a look at Maggie's, who provide information and also have local centres.

I hope the forum can be of some help to you at this time - we are always here if you need it.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
