Palliative care at home

My 13 year old daughter has bravely battled a germ cell tumour since Aug last year, cruelly she had at one point appeared to be winning and even got to ring the end of treatment bell. But 2 months later the cancer returned and has returned more aggressively.

She has been in hospital most of May, June and July and at one point agsin it looked like she was starting to win the battle but we have just on Friday been given the news there is no more treatment for this and so we are at home with our beautiful, brave girl making the most of the time she has left.

We hope to keep her home, this is where she wants to be until the end. But I am absolutely distraught at what she is going to have to go through. We have discussed a care plan and the palliative care Dr is coming to the house tomorrow. I know we will have a plan, back up of Nurses, medication. But just how do we face the unimaginable?

  • A very warm welcome to our Cancer Chat community Fiji although I'm so incredibly sad, and sorry, to read about your daughter.

I can't even begin to comprehend what you and your family must be going through at the moment, but you've been incredibly brave in reaching out and sharing your story with us and I'm sure it won't be long until some of our members stop by to offer their support and advice.

I'm really glad you have the support of the palliative doctor and nurses but if there is anything else you need or would like to discuss with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do everything in their power to support you at this very difficult time.

I know nothing I can say will make this any easier but I really do hope you can take some comfort from knowing that you are not alone, and that we will always be here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
