Sister diagnosed recently with advanced ovarian cancer. Trying to get my head around it all

Hi My Sister has recently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer which has spread into the fatty tissue in her stomache and has spots on her liver and also pockets of liquid on her breast bone filled with liquid that they have said has cancerous cells in!!!!’

it’s all rather overwhelming and I’m trying to get my head around it all they have said they are going to start chemo in 3 weeks.

Is all this treatable I’m really finding it all very hard to understand!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi Alison_Ann and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm really sorry to hear your sister has been diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer but I'm glad she will be able to start chemo soon.

You can find out more about treating advanced ovarian cancer on our website, but if you'd like to talk this through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Hopefully some of our members who have been on this journey will offer their support and advice to you soon but in the meantime, we're thinking of you both and wishing your sister all the best with the start of her treatment in 3 weeks time.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

Im not an expert but my 85 year old mum was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer in June this year. She has since been told she has peritoneal disease and lung nodules. She also had to wait for the chemotherapy to start just like your situation.

We spoke to the doctor before the Chemo started and he told us that the treatment wouldn’t cure the cancer but would relieve symptoms.

    hope that helps a little
