A sister with bowel cancel

My youngest sister has just been diagnosed with bowel cancer. She is undergoing an MRI and a CAT scan as well having exploratory colonoscopy we don’t have all the results back yet but we do know it is cancer

my biggest concern is her fatigue. Does that mean her cancer has advanced or is greater than thought?  She can hardly function and continually sleeps?

  • It doesn't mean that - it was my fatigue / tiredness that partly prompted me to visit the doc initially. I did have a pretty large tumour but it was treatable (and it's now gone!). This part is the hardest IMO. You've had the shock of the big C word, now you have to wait for all their tests. Stay strong and try not to think about the 'what ifs'. I know it's not easy. Once they know what's going in, you'll get a treatment plan and can work from there. Set small goals and try and remain positive - I firmly believe it helps you get through it with a positive mindset. I focussed on being around for my wife and kids but the focus could be being around for family, to see an event, to go on holiday. I hope all goes well with the scans etc :)

  • I’ve got reassurance from your post, thanks
