Tumour markers going back up again

Hi Ive been caring for my boyfriend for the last few months whilst he’s had several rounds of chemotherapy for testicular cancer. After all the treatment finished about a month ago,  his tumour markers were undetectable and we were so so happy. I started doing more exercise, seeing friends and eating well and have been feeling a lot happier. But now his recent blood tests show the tumour markers are going back up again. Im really scared and I don’t know how to cope with it all. Everything feels so outside of my control and I just want him to be healthy and happy, he’s been through so much already and he’s only 26. What should I do?

  • Hi Olivia and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm really sorry to hear that your boyfriend's tumour marks have started to go back up just a month after being told they were undetectable.

This must be such a difficult time for you both but our members are here for you Olivia and I'm sure it won't be long until some of them stop by to offer their support and advice.

Supporting and caring for someone with cancer can be very challenging, so if you can, try and maintain the good things you started doing within the last month as it's so important that you take care of yourself both physically and emotionally during this time as it will enable you to have some sort of control, and really help you both going forward.

If you'd like to talk things through with someone we have a team of cancer nurses available on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to support you.

We're thinking of you Olivia and wishing you both all the very best during this anxious and uncertain time.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
