My husband has been diagnosed with cancer today and we’re waiting for their decision on treatment. He’s in hospital and I’m worried about him being scared. I already feel I’ve lost him and finding it hard to see any future.

Hello Cariad-waters,
I am so sorry to hear your husband has just been diagnosed with cancer. Do you know what type of cancer if you don't mind me asking? I hope that you won't have to wait too long for a decision on treatment and that he won't be staying too long on his own in hospital. It must be so hard for you at the moment especially with him being in hospital so I hope you can be with him again soon so you can support one another during this difficult time. I know the shock of the news is making you feel like it's difficult to see any future and the road ahead seems full of uncertainty and you probably feel a little bit lost at the moment but I hope you will feel a little better once you have been reunited with your husband and his medical team have explained what the treatment plan might be. There's nothing harder than knowing your husband has been diagnosed with cancer but feeling a bit left in the dark, unable to have all the details of the diagnosis and treatment options. I just wanted you to know that the Cancer Chat community is always there for you, day and night, and I hope that you will hear from other forum members who find themselves or have found themselves in a similar position, supporting a loved one with cancer and having to deal with the shock of a new diagnosis.
We also have a helpline you can ring if you wanted to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses once you find out more about your husband's cancer and treatment options - you can call them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
I hope your husband is out of hospital soon so that you can comfort him during this difficult time.
Best wishes,
Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
Thank you for replying - he’s been diagnosed with gallbladder cancer that has spread to the liver. He has further scans this week and the MDT meeting is this Thursday. He seems to be withdrawing from everyone around him at the moment.
