Why? My husband's cancer has spread to his liver stomach lungs and bones.

My husband's cancer has spread to his liver stomach lungs and bones. We found out just over a week ago just can't accept it. I know what's happening but my brain just won't / can't accept it

  • Hello Kel-

I'm so very sorry to hear the sad news that you were recently told regarding the spread of your husband's cancer. Undoubtedly this will have been incredibly difficult news to hear and it's understandable that you may have been struggling to accept this information.

What you've described isn't an uncommon reaction to hearing this news. There's some information on our website about how cancer can make you feel. Whilst it's written for a patient's perspective, it also very much applies to how a loved one can feel after hearing about a cancer diagnosis.

What support do the two of you have around you Kel? I hope that you have family and friends that you can lean on for support. Does you husband have a clinical nurse specialist or a palliative care team that you can reach out to for information and help regarding his health and the practicalities of caring for him? Don't be afraid to get in touch with them if you have any questions.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support they can.

Keep in touch Kel. We're here to listen and offer any help that we can.

Thinking of you both at this difficult time.

    Best wishes,
