Need advice for my mom she diagnosis Oral cancer in past now diagnosis osteoporosis

Hello to everyone,

I need advice for my mom basically she was diagnosis with breast cancer in Aug 2016 got full treatments of breast cancer like 16 chemotherapies then Operate then 24 radiation and treatment was end in oct 2017. My mom was fine then she just eat one tablet everyday as per doctor's they suggest 1 tablet daily for next 5 years.

Again in Dec 2021 she diagnosis oral cancer in her left jaws and palate. Again she receive all cancer treatment chemo operation and radiation. She is alright.

Now in Aug 2023 she was feeling problems in her knees after consulting with doctors they diagnosed osteoporosis and recommended 6 Bisphosphonate injections. Every injection after the time period of 6 months. This week she received her 3rd injection.

Last month she have pains in her tooth 2 are shaking and cause pain and we already have appointments of doctor for tooth extraction.

But Doctors told us if they removed teeth so because she received Bisphosphonate injections so she have very minimum chances of healing and it causes some problems in future. Now we are confused what we need to do. Removing both teeths are also compulsory for us because of pain but healing is also important and doctors told us very minimum chances of healing.

  • Hi Munam95,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear that your mom has been experiencing all these difficulties. I can understand that the situation with the teeth is tough in terms of knowing what to do and what to expect.

Unfortunately it's very difficult to advise on this - it would be best to talk things through with the doctor to ask any questions and talk through the concerns. They will be best placed to explain what may be necessary, and what may be needed to help in terms of any further treatments or with supporting healing.

I hope you're able to find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
