radical trachelectomy

Hi, my daughter has had the above and it did not go to plan. She is quite unwell and had minor surgery to improve things, She has had to have a skin graft and a transfusion. The problem is the clinic she attended is in London and she is in deepest Sussex with 3 children and no partner. She is in intense pain a week later. What can she do? She went private and is sure the NHS won't help her now. :(

  • Hello filibuster,

I am so sorry to hear that your daughter's radical trachelectomy did not go to plan. I think it would be a good idea to phone the clinic for advice as soon as possible even though the clinic she attended is in London and she lives in Sussex.  They will need to know of any problems post surgery and will be able to advise. Your daughter could also  call 111.

You mentioned your daughter went private but it's worth remembering that she won't lose her right to NHS treatment so she can decide to move back to NHS care at any time. There is information on our website on moving between NHS and private care

She is also very welcome to ring our nurse helpline for advice on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope your daughter manages to speak to someone tomorrow and that she feels better soon.

    Best wishes,
