Liver Cancer

My dad was diagnosed with liver cancer in April he has decided to not have any treatment. We have been told my dad has between 6-12 months to live. As my dad has not had a biopsy we don’t know what stage he is at. My dad has started having discomfort in his stomach and he is getting really swollen. He is still eating maybe not as much as he could, he is still walking his dog but not as far as he could. He is getting really frustrated because he has always been so active. I am finding it hard because I think without having the biopsy we don’t know what stage he is at. His tumour was 5cm on the scan we were told.

  • Hello Newm,

I am so sorry to hear about your dad's liver cancer diagnosis and that he has decided not to have any treatment. It must be so hard for those around him to be told that he only has 6-12 months to live and not knowing what stage he is at because he has not had a biopsy must create a real cloud of uncertainty hanging over your head. It must be really upsetting too to be seeing him having discomfort, getting really swollen and starting to be more limited in what he can do in his daily life, eating less and walking not as far as he could. It's good that he is still eating though and walking the dog but I can imagine it is so frustrating for him especially if he was always a very active man.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our forum who have been diagnosed with liver cancer or who have looked after a loved one with a similar diagnosis. I just wanted you to know you are not alone and others will I am sure pop by and share their story with you.

Best wishes to you and your dad during this difficult time,
