New to this

Hi, my mum is due to go for a brain biopsy on Tuesday, the surgeon is confident the results will confirm his suspicion of lymphoma.

This has come.out of nowhere as she thought she had a uti and it was a chance discovery.

I'm just wondering how myself and brother can support her and dad through this, she's only 66 and has always been fit and healthy. What we can expect over the coming months?

Also are there any benefits her or dad can apply for?

Love and strength to all

X

  • Hi Pippa, my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer recently and the Macmillan service contacted her, asked a few questions and he applied for a blue badge for her and attendance allowance on her behalf. The blue badge arrived about a week later and the Attendance allowance letter confirming that she was eligible arrived about two weeks later. The full attendance allowance is about £108 a week and is not means tested. I understand that the hospital informed the Macmillan service.

Thanks for the reply, I've passed the info onto my dad. X

  • Hi Pippa,

We are new to this too...

My mum was diagnosed with a brain tumour on the 23rd April. Appointment tomorrow with doctors to find out what the plan is going forward.

My mum will be 60 is December, I'm the closest family member, my brother and extended family being 100+ miles away.

No idea what to expect, hoping with more information tomorrow we'll feel a little more prepared.

    Sending love x
