Advice please

Hello!

I posted a while ago about my mum but now I’m getting more concerned and am having no help from anyone. I am her full time carer as well as working a full time job.

we were told that my mums cancer could reach her brain within 1-2 years, that the chances of her living another 5 years are slim. We were discharged from the cancer clinic with no follow ups, no leaflets, no advice.

we have tried asking Macmillian and Martlets what I need to look out for and how I would know when palliative care needs to start but nobody can seem to answer my questions.

I have been keeping an eye on things and she’s now coming up with random bruises over her arms and hands but she doesn’t recall knocking it or bumping into things.. She is becoming more tired in the evenings and her body aches. The other thing that is concerning me more than anything else is that she is eating a lot but is losing weight. She was 9st 9, she is now 8st 7 and just keeps going down. She is losing her appetite but is forcing herself to eat even though she doesn’t want too.

We have had nothing and basically I’m playing a game of Blues Clues because I do not know what to do when doctors and everyone else won’t help. We have been discharged from multiple services with no follow ups and the palliative care team were supposed to get in contact but haven’t. I’ve tried reaching out but with no luck.

Im hoping someone could give me some advice because im going to lose my mind otherwise.

thank you in advance

  • Hi Jen, thank you for commenting.

My mum has a very aggressive form of Basal Cell Carcinoma, which with her long term health conditions, surgery isn’t an option as she would die from when she gets put under the aesthetic.

The hospital told us that radiation shouldn’t have been done as it’s treatment resistant.

I have been in touch with macmillian again and this time they answered my questions and gave me advice, but with the recent events they said that the all of her signs and symptoms link towards cancer progression.

I will be speaking with her GP hopefully tomorrow to get her a new full medical assessment etc.
