Hi, my husband has been ignoring his symptoms. Cannot swallow properly, pain and bloody sputum with cough. He has been ignoring hospital appointments for endoscopy and chest X-ray. He got red letter appointments from hospital but didn’t go. A new appointment has been organised for tomorrow. I want to go with him but he says he will go on his own.  We have 5 children. He is almost 50 years old. I am worried as he is losing weight and not eating. He keeps telling me everything is fine. I think he is ignoring it. I am scared as I think if he has cancer of oesophagus  it has spread to his lungs as he has bloody sputum with a cough. It might be incurable……am so worried and anxious. Hospital appointment tomorrow for xray. Will he know tomorrow if something is wrong? He will not let me go with him. Then straight after he is going to work so I won’t see him until the evening…….I don’t know what to do

  • Hello Sooty and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's symptoms and that's he hasn't been attending his hospital appointments, but I really do hope he went to his x-ray appointment yesterday and told you what happened.

It must be incredibly difficult and upsetting to be in this position Sooty, especially when all you want to do is be by his side and support him, but hopefully your husband will start to open up to you soon and you can face whatever may lie ahead, together.

I'm sure some of our members will offer their support and advice to you soon, but if you would like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to answer your questions and support you during this anxious time.

Our community are here for you Sooty and will do all that they can to help.

    Kind regards,
