Feeling Frustrated

My mum has been diagnosed with melanoma tumour on her inner thigh. She has had ct scan and mri, and tumour seems to be contained, albeit massive and bleeding daily. We thought she would've had the mass removed by now, it's been months of nothing but meetings and only just had the biopsy done. After pushing for more information, we've just learnt mum has a second mass on her kidney, but they don't think it's related to her melanoma. She has to wait another two weeks for biopsy of her kidney, and another meeting for cancer team to determined whether she needs to check it hasn't gone into her lymph nodes. Apprantely this is another two wait for this. In total mum has been waiting over 8 months. Time is crucial but due to mum's age I feel they don't seem to care. I want to move her closer to me and get her seen at my local hospital, it almost feel like post code lottery! Beyond devasted on how timely these meetings and cause of action is taking.

  • I can understand your frustration. My husband had a different type of skin cancer. Normally they would remove the lesion and send it away for testing. Is there a reason why they wouldn’t want to operate on your Mum? 8 months sounds ridiculous. Can you ask to get a second opinion?

  • They took a biopsy from the tumour to determine what it was. I couldn't understand why the mass wasn't removed as its huge and such a mess. The stitches from biop was removed and its bleeding heavily daily. They keep passing the notes from department to departments, then team meetings and still no date for removal and follow up treatment. I'm going to get her to another hospital, this wait time is like living with a ticking clock.
