Caring for someone with stage 4 lung cancer

Hi I am 21 years old and caring for my dad who has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to adrenal glands and other areas including the brain. He’s just finished his 2nd round of chemo and immunotherapy and is onto go more in a few weeks , the first round he ended up in hospital for a few days due to the sickness of it and it was painful and heartbreaking to watch and I’m scared of this happening again? Is anyone else feeling like this ? How do you feel better about it and staying positive ?

  • Hi Catelyn and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm really sorry to hear about your dad and that he was recently in hospital for a few days after his first round of chemo and immunotherapy. This must have been very scary and it's completely understandable why you would be worried about this happening again but I'm sure his medical team are keeping an eye on things and will do everything they can to prevent this.

Caring for someone with cancer can be very tough, but our community is filled with members who have been in this position, so you are not alone, and hopefully it won't be long until some of them stop by to offer their support and advice.

If you'd like to talk any of this through with our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope this section we have for family, friends and caregivers will prove useful as well.

We're thinking of you Catelyn and sending you and your dad all our support at this very difficult time.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
